Notices
Adjacent excavation notices
An adjacent excavation notice is about foundations close to a neighbour’s building. Depth and distance are the tests. A website cannot measure either from a postcode.
This is general information for England and Wales. It is not a decision on your building. Status: pending project-specific review by a qualified Party Wall professional. House-style review 27 September 2026.
Why the section drawing matters
A floor plan shows the extension. It rarely shows how deep the trench is, or how far that trench sits from the neighbour’s foundation. Those two figures are what a reviewer uses.
If the engineer has not designed the foundations yet, open the file anyway, but do not expect a notice to be drafted from a planning drawing alone.
What it is not
It is not a licence to undermine the house next door, and it is not building regulations approval. Where the dig is a basement, underpinning or piling, the file is specialist and is not given a standard from-price.
The period people usually cite is one month before excavation. Confirm it on your file.
A Party Wall Notice does not replace planning permission, building regulations approval, leaseholder or freeholder consent, or structural advice. This platform does not provide legal advice and does not issue Awards.
