I have received a Party Wall Notice

A notice is a statutory letter about proposed work. It is not a demand that you agree, and it is not a builder’s flyer. You usually have a short time to respond. Check the date before you do anything else.

General information. Status: pending project-specific review by a qualified Party Wall professional. House-style review 27 September 2026.

Your practical options

  • Consent in writing, if you are comfortable and the notice matches the work you have been shown
  • Dissent, and appoint a surveyor — dissent is allowed, it is not a quarrel you have to justify on this form
  • Ask for something unclear to be explained before you decide

If you do nothing, the Act provides a further process by which a surveyor may be appointed for you. That is time-sensitive and should be handled by a person. This website will not appoint that surveyor.

A dissent does not necessarily stop the project, but it may require surveyor appointments and an Award. In many residential files the building owner meets the reasonable cost of the process. That is not a promise about your notice. It has to be read.

We will not use urgent or frightening wording to push you into an appointment. If the envelope mentions a court or an injunction, seek independent legal advice.
