For neighbours
My neighbour is building an extension
An extension next door can be entirely ordinary and still be something the Party Wall Act covers. You can ask what is planned, whether a notice has been served, and how your side of the wall will be protected.
General information. Status: pending project-specific review by a qualified Party Wall professional. House-style review 27 September 2026.
Start with the paper. A planning application, a conversation over the fence, and a Party Wall Notice are three different things. Planning approval does not replace a notice. A notice does not replace planning approval.
- Keep the notice and the envelope
- Look at whether foundations, a loft, a chimney or a steel are mentioned
- Photograph cracks that already exist, with a date
- Decide whether you want to consent or to have a surveyor involved
If work has already started and you have had no notice, say that when you contact us. Those files are reviewed urgently by a person. We cannot order work to stop.
