Surveyors

Who pays the surveyors?

In a great many residential files the person doing the work pays the reasonable fees of the process, including an adjoining owner’s surveyor. Reasonable is the word that causes arguments, and it is decided on the file, not on a webpage.

This is general information for England and Wales. It is not a decision on your building. Status: pending project-specific review by a qualified Party Wall professional. House-style review 27 September 2026.

What we will not do

We will not tell an adjoining owner that their surveyor is free in every case. We will not tell a building owner that a dissent is an unlimited bill. Quotes for surveyor work are separate from notice-only fees.

If a surveyor’s fee is later disputed, that dispute is for the appointed surveyors or, where needed, advice outside this platform. We do not run debt collection.

A Party Wall Notice does not replace planning permission, building regulations approval, leaseholder or freeholder consent, or structural advice. This platform does not provide legal advice and does not issue Awards.
