I received a notice: the first 48 hours

A Party Wall Notice is a statutory letter. It is not a builder’s flyer and it is not a demand that you agree.

This is general information for England and Wales. It is not a decision on your building. Status: pending project-specific review by a qualified Party Wall professional. House-style review 27 September 2026.

Do this before you reply

Keep the notice and the envelope or the email header. Photograph anything you can already see that is cracked or out of true, with the date. Read whether the work is a loft, an extension, a basement or excavation.

You can consent, dissent and appoint a surveyor, or ask for a point to be clarified. We will not push you toward a paid appointment.

  • Check the date
  • Do not ignore it until the last afternoon if you want advice
  • If the letter mentions a court or an injunction, take independent legal advice

A Party Wall Notice does not replace planning permission, building regulations approval, leaseholder or freeholder consent, or structural advice. This platform does not provide legal advice and does not issue Awards.
