Neighbours

Should I consent to my neighbour’s work?

Consent in writing can be the simplest path when you have seen the drawings and you are comfortable with them. It is not compulsory.

This is general information for England and Wales. It is not a decision on your building. Status: pending project-specific review by a qualified Party Wall professional. House-style review 27 September 2026.

What consent does not do

It does not insure you. It does not promise there will be no dust or damage. It does not replace a Schedule of Condition if you want a record of the house beforehand. And it is about the scheme you were shown. A later revision should come back to you.

If you are unsure, you can dissent. A dissent does not necessarily stop the project, but it may require surveyor appointments and an Award. In many residential files the building owner meets the reasonable cost of that process. That is not a ruling on your notice.

A Party Wall Notice does not replace planning permission, building regulations approval, leaseholder or freeholder consent, or structural advice. This platform does not provide legal advice and does not issue Awards.
